Homicide investigation underway, Freeman’s Bay

A homicide investigation has been launched following the discovery of a body on Renall Street, Freeman’s Bay last night.

Auckland City CIB’s Detective Inspector Scott Beard says Police discovered the deceased around 10pm.

“Police are continuing to gather information from the scene and enquires into the exact circumstances surrounding what has occurred are ongoing.”

A person is in custody and Police are not looking for anyone else in connection at this stage.

Man charged over death in Mt Eden Corrections Facility

A murder charge has been laid following the death of an inmate at Mount Eden Corrections Facility on 27 June.

“A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder,” acting Detective Inspector Greg Brand, of Auckland City CIB, says.

“Police enquires are ongoing and at this stage and as this matter is before the courts Police are unable to comment further."

The man will appear in the Auckland District Court on 3 July.

Police can confirm the death of a man at Mt Eden Corrections Facility is being treated as a homicide.

Police were made aware at about 4pm yesterday of a man who had died at the prison following an incident.

The investigation into this matter is continuing.

A pair of alleged burglars discovered there is no distance Police won’t cover when it comes to holding people accountable for their crimes.

Auckland Central Police have been investigating a burglary at a High Street jewellery store on 30 May.

“Enquiries carried out by our staff revealed the alleged offenders used a rented vehicle to leave the scene,” Auckland City Area Investigations Manager Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend says.

“Further enquires carried out identified two individuals who reside in Ōpōtiki as being allegedly involved in the burglary.”

Dogged determination gets results

Man’s best friend, a trusty dog owner and some speedy Police work potentially prevented car thefts in an East Auckland suburb early this morning.

A Greenlane resident who was woken by his dog barking around 3.45am investigated immediately.

“His trusty pooch had alerted him to two people outside his home apparently scoping out parked cars with a torch,” Inspector Jim Wilson, Auckland City East Area Commander, says.

But by the time Police arrived the pair were on the move and fled despite being signalled to stop.

Police accept IPCA findings following accidental fall

Police accept the findings by the Independent Police Conduct Authority following the death of a man in Auckland last year.

On 4 November 2024, Police were called to a commercial property on Boston Road after a report of a man becoming agitated towards staff at the address and paramedics.

Police officers arrived and instructed the man to leave.

The man refused to leave despite the officer's requests, so the officer placed a hand on his shoulder to guide him along.

Auckland City Police is seeking information on the whereabouts of Solomon Kapua Apihai.

The 41-year-old has a warrant for his arrest for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The Wesley resident is currently avoiding Police.

“We strongly encourage Apihai to hand himself in at his nearest Police station,” acting Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk says.

“Anyone who sees him or has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Police.”

Mt Roskill incident resolved safely

Police have resolved a family harm incident in Mt Roskill safely.

One man is in custody after Police spent a lengthy time trying to engage with the man who was inside a property with a distressed female.

The Police helicopter, Eagle, identified an opportunity to separate the pair.

Specialist staff deployed distraction devices and the man was taken into custody.

No one was injured.

Police anticipate road cordons around White Swan Road will lift shortly and greatly appreciate co-operation from the public this afternoon.

Police incident in Mt Roskill

Police have closed a section of White Swan Road in Mt Roskill in response to an ongoing family harm incident.

Cordons are in place between the intersections with Ellis Ave and Richardson Road.

Police are attempting to engage with an individual in a nearby residence.

The community can be reassured the matter is contained, and there is no wider risk.
