Ōtāhuhu homicide: Man charged

Police have now charged a man in relation to a homicide in Ōtāhuhu on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to a Beatty Street property at about 8.30pm following a report of a person being seriously injured.

A man was transported to hospital but later died of his injuries.

Detective Inspector Karen Bright, of Counties Manukau CIB, says a man was taken into custody yesterday afternoon and Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the investigation.

Police are formally releasing the name of the man who died in a fatal crash in Manurewa on Friday, 27 June.

Today, he can be named as Iu Toalua, aged 45, of Auckland.

Police extend our condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

A 56-year-old man has been charged with driving dangerously causing death, dangerous driving causing injury and driving while forbidden has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Manukau District Court on 18 July.

Police is speaking with a man in connection with a homicide investigation underway in Ōtāhuhu.

Enquiries began after a callout to Beatty Street at about 8.30pm on Sunday night, to reports of a person being seriously injured.

A man was transported to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Detective Inspector Karen Bright, of Counties Manukau CIB, says the investigation team took a man into custody this afternoon.

“We are currently speaking to the 31-year-old as part of our enquiries,” she says.

Death following crash on Thursday, Karaka

A woman has died in hospital following a crash in Karaka last Thursday.

Emergency services were called to SH22 about 1.15pm on 26 June to reports of a head on collision involving two vehicles.

Four people were transported to hospital by ambulance, two in critical condition, one in serious condition and one moderate.

Police can confirm one of the people in a critical condition, a 79-year-old woman, died in hospital on 27 June.

A man remains in hospital in a critical condition, while the other two involved in the crash have been discharged.

Crash and court a costly night for driver

It was pricey night for one dangerous driver who dented his pride and joy and landed himself in court.

Police in Papakura observed a vehicle travelling at speed on Clevedon Road just before 11pm.

Counties Manukau South Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Matt Hoyes, says officers signalled for the vehicle to stop.

“The driver has initially pulled over on Broadway, however, as officers began talking to him about his speed, he has accelerated away along Elliot Street.”

Police are continuing with a critical incident investigation surrounding the events leading up to a fatal crash in Manurewa overnight.

We are now in a position to release further information as our enquiries continue.

The driver of the Mitsubishi vehicle remains in a critical condition at Middlemore Hospital, and was due to undergo surgery today.

Police have spoken with the man taken into custody at the scene this morning.

One person has died, and another is in a critical condition following an incident in Manurewa overnight.

A critical incident investigation is now underway, which will establish the full circumstances of what unfolded.

At about 1am, a Police unit was travelling along Roscommon Road after attending an unrelated job.

Staff have then sighted a Mitsubishi vehicle pulling out of Sharland Road closely followed by an Isuzu.

Public's help sought to find Ella Davenport

Police is renewing public appeals for sightings of missing Māngere woman Ella Davenport.

The 57-year-old has been missing from her Hain Avenue home in Māngere East since Friday 20 June.

An initial appeal was released over the weekend, but she has still not returned home.

“Police have been carrying out extensive enquiries over the weekend and into the week,” acting Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Kerr, of Counties Manukau West CIB, says.

“We have established a sighting of Ella near Woolworths Māngere East, on Massey Road, at 2.47pm on the same day.

Serious crash: SH22, Karaka

One person is in a critical condition and two others are trapped in vehicle following a two car crash on Karaka Road (State Highway 22) around 1.15pm.

Road closures are in place on SH22 and motorists are advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

Karaka Road is now closed between Blackbridge Road and the Glenbrook roundabout, with diversions in place north of the crash at the Karaka Road and Great South Road junction also.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised and will attend the scene.
