Police investigating after baby critically injured, Foxton Beach

Police are investigating after a 6-month-old baby was found with critical injuries at a Foxton Beach house on Sunday 29 June.

Emergency services were called to the Seabury Avenue house at around 5.30am that day.

The baby was initially transported to Palmerston North Hospital before being airlifted to Starship Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Name release: Fatal crash, State Highway 2, Pahiatua

Police can now release the name of the man who died following a crash on State Highway 2 south of Pahiatua on Thursday 15 May.

He was 38-year-old Troy Joseph Hawe-Ross, of Palmerston North.

Our thoughts are with those close to him at this difficult time.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Man arrested, appeal for information in Levin fire

Manawatū Police and Fire and Emergency New Zealand are making enquiries into a suspicious house fire in Levin this morning.

The fire on Cambridge Street was reported about 4:15am. Fortunately, the occupants of the house escaped without injury.

A 40-year-old Levin man has been taken into custody, and is due in Palmerston North District Court on Monday on an arson charge.

However, Police are still are seeking information from the public.

Fatal house fire, Marton

One person has been found deceased following a house fire in Marton this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Calico Line property, between Bredins Line and Nga Tawa Road, about 6:10am, and found the house fully ablaze.

Sadly, one person was found deceased at the property.

A scene guard has been put in place and Police and Fire and Emergency New Zealand investigators are carrying out a scene examination. The cause of the fire is still to be determined.

At this time, no further details are available.

Name release: Fatal house fire, Waitara

Police are now in a position to release the name of the man who was found deceased after a house fire in Waitara on Friday 6 June.

He was 45-year-old, Jamie Elliott.

His dog was found alongside him.

Police extends our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Water incident, Pātea

Two people have died after a boat capsized off Pātea this morning.

Three people were aboard the boat when it got into trouble in water off Pātea, about 10.15am.

One person was located in the water after the boat capsized. They were treated by ambulance at the scene and have been transported to hospital.

Sadly, two people died in the incident and their bodies were recovered by 11.30am.

Police are providing support to their next of kin.

Fatal Crash, SH2, Maharahara

One person has died following a serious crash on State Highway Two, Maharahara earlier this evening.

Emergency services received a report of the two-vehicle crash at around 5.05pm.

Sadly, despite best efforts from emergency services, one person died at the scene.

Two others have received moderate to serious injuries.

The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducts a scene examination.

Motorists are advised to follow diversions and expect delays.

Two to appear in court following Marton incidents

Two men are before the courts following two incidents in Marton.

At approximately 10pm on 10 May, Police were called to an alleged aggravated robbery at a commercial premises on Broadway.

After closing and securing the premises, the employee was confronted by the alleged offender who hid in the ceiling space of the property.

The offender threatened the employee with a weapon and demanded a large amount of cash before fleeing the area on foot.

Missing person located, Taranaki

Found Missing Person

Missing US aviation student, William Henry Johnson, has been located and Police have confirmed they have no concern for his welfare.

24-year-old Johnson was reported missing by his family on 9 June, after not contacting them for several days.

Enquiries by Police have enabled them to make contact and confirm he is now safe and with his family.
